Developing raw materials for refrigerator oils for environmentally-friendly air conditioners
Derived from oxo reaction, 2-ethyl hexanoic acid and isononanoic acid are used to make refrigerator oils which contribute to the efficient operation of air conditioners.
Air conditioners intake the hot air inside a room and carry the heat outside to cool down the room. The refrigerant is responsible for carrying the heat outside, and functions by being compressed in the compressor in the external air conditioner unit. Refrigerator oils are necessary for the smooth operation of the compressor.
To protect the ozone layer and help prevent global warming, there is a worldwide shift away from controlled CFCs and towards CFC substitutes. There is also a demand to switch to a new generation of refrigerants known as "low GWP* (global warming potential) refrigerants." Changes in the refrigerant often lead to changes in the lubricant oil to optimize performance.
KH Neochem is developing raw materials and additives for refrigerator oils as a response to changes in the refrigerant.
